What is hydraulic oil

Hydraulic oil is a non-compressible fluid that is used to transfer power within hydraulic machinery and equipment. Otherwise known as hydraulic fluid.

What is hydraulic oil used for

As well as to transfer power, hydraulic oils also serve as a lubricant, coolant and sealant in machinery and equipment. They are used in pretty much every industry due to their large number of benefits;

What is commonly used hydraulic oil

The most common grades of hydraulic oil are 32, 46, and 68. The viscosity of hydraulic oil is measured in centistokes (cSt), which is a unit of measurement for the fluid’s resistance to flow.

Role of hydraulic oil in heat exchanger

As hydraulic fluid circulates, it carries heat away from components. This heated fluid is then directed to the heat exchanger, where convection facilitates the transfer of thermal energy to the external medium (air or water).

Heat Exchanger to cool the hydraulic oil

The major type of hydraulic oil cooler is Shell and Tube Type hydraulic oil cooler and Air-cooled Type hydraulic oil cooler

Shell and Tube Type hydraulic oil Cooler

Shell and tube oil cooler is a type of heat exchanger called shell and tube heat exchanger.

It Contain two major portions, namely Shell Side and Tube side.

Shell side: Hot Media will circulate inside the shell side

Tube side:  Cold Media will circulate inside the tubes.

Operation principle; When hot fluid circulates inside the shell portion, the cold fluid will circulate inside the Tube portion, during the process, Cold Fluid absorb the heat from the hot fluid.

After Absorbing heat, cold fluid will get hot and hot fluid become cold, cold fluid is cooled with the help of cooling tower or chiller, cold fluid is used for cooling machinery, The same process will be repeated continuously
